Anyone for a Picnic?

Anyone for a Picnic?

Well summer is in full flow now and we're all enjoying the sun, when it decides to come out of course. It's this time of year when we start to think about picnics as well. Whether it's just a sausage roll and an orange juice in your back garden, a hamper-lunch at The Open or a full on picnic basket of yummy goodness on Puddydale (Heswall's Central Park!), there are myriad choices for a picnic. Here at Whitmore & White we have a fantastic selection of fabulous delicatessen fare that will set you up for a perfect picnic. Let me take you through a few things. First of all we have some savoury delights in the form of Cooper's Sausage Rolls. Proper, big and meaty sausage rolls. We have traditional pork, garlic + chilli (which tastes like chorizo) and Shropshire blue cheese + onion flavours. Then there are Orchard Pigs Tractor Wheel pork pies, again in three flavours - traditional pork, pork + apple and pork + black pudding. Finally we have Orchard Pigs Scotch Eggs - once more in three flavours - traditional pork, spicy and black pudding. Not into pastries? No worries, we have fresh baguettes from French Corner and superb sourdough from Little Eye Bakery. Great with our selection of Patchwork Patés or Dip Nation dips (the spinach and feta dip is a firm favourite). Grab yourself some cheese as well to go with your bread. We have around 30 in stock ranging from ripe and creamy Brie to a hot and fiery red devil Cheddar from Snowdonia Cheese Company. Try the Villarejo Rosemary cheese too - the rind is covered with rosemary and the adds a subtle fragrance to this hard cheese. Crisps are a must at a picnic and we have a selection from Corker's Crisps. They come in some classic flavours too - Sweet Thai Chilli, Pork Sausage + English Mustard, Red Leicester and Caramelised Onion and the incredible Gressingham Duck + Hoisin Sauce flavour. corkers_crisps Fancy some smoked meat? From Rannoch Smokery comes a great selection of smoked chicken, cold smoked beef, smoked duck together with game terrine and chicken terrine. Try our smoked salmon too - it's delicately smoky and delicious. Salade anyone? We have fresh rocket, cherry tomatoes, red onions, garlic and a choice of flavours of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars to dress the salad. Now what to drink? Well, if you fancy wine, we have over 200 to choose from. Some greats for picnics are fresh and fruity whites like the La Molara Falanghina, I Fiori Lamberti Pinot Grigio and Legato Grillo from Italy. Fancy something New World? Go for a Seven Hills Inigo Riesling - a racy little number from Clare Valley in Australia. Fancy a red? Something light and fruity like the Nicolis Vapolicella from Italy would be great or if you fancy something a bit fuller, go for a Delheim Shiraz from South Africa. Something fizzy perhaps? The Undurruga Brut Royal sparkling wine from Chile is sublime. Not into wine? A cider perhaps? We have cider from Spain, France and of course the UK. A personal fave is the Cornish Orchard Farmhouse Cider - a medium sweet and still cider. Delicious and refreshing. If you don't fancy anything alcoholic, or want something special for the kids, then we have some great French lemonades from La Mortucienne. Flavours such as pink grapefruit and mandarine are lovely. We also make our own orange juice which is incredibly refreshing. La_Mortucienne No picnic would be complete without something sweet. Check out the Joe + Sephs range of popcorn, or our handmade brownies, rocky road or millionaire shortbread. Then of course there are the cakes - The chocolate and raspberry tart is heavenly and the lemon meringue tart is delightful. So, has that whetted your appetite? In that case, pop in to our shop and let us put together something for your perfect picnic. Graham
