What do Yogi, Teddy Bears, Ratty, Mole, families and couples all have in common? Yep, that's right, they love a picnic. What's more rewarding than finding that quiet spot in an idyllic location, rolling out the obligatory tartan blanket and dishing out the goodies? Whenever I think of picnics I fondly remember my childhood reading Wind In The Willows. I loved Mole's excitement over the picnic that Ratty has packed ...
'Hold hard a minute, then!' said the Rat. He looped the painter through a ring in his landing-stage, climbed up into his hole above, and after a short interval reappeared staggering under a fat, wicker luncheon-basket.
'Shove that under your feet,' he observed to the Mole, as he passed it down into the boat. Then he untied the painter and took the sculls again.
'What's inside it?' asked the Mole, wriggling with curiosity.
'There's cold chicken inside it,' replied the Rat briefly;
'O stop, stop,' cried the Mole in ecstacies: 'This is too much!'
'Do you really think so?' enquired the Rat seriously. 'It's only what I always take on these little excursions; and the other animals are always telling me that I'm a mean beast and cut it VERY fine!'
Be. Like. Ratty
Spoil yourselves and concoct your own bespoke gourmet picnic. We've plenty of crackers, cheeses, cured & smoked meats, olives, gherkins, crisps, popcorn and more. Simply explore our shelves and place your goodies inside one of our stylish jute bags. Hopefully the days will remain warm, so you will need some liquid refreshments too. Our Graham, Heswall's wine expert, would choose these to beat the heat. La Farra Prosecco - Made from Prosecco grapes grown in the Valdobbiadene area this is elegant and light, with floral and fruity hints on the nose, fresh, harmonious, with a pleasant citrus acidity and soft bubbles on the palate. Torre del Falasco Garganega - A perfect mid-week white wine. A fresh and vibrant nose of elderflower and ripe summer lemons which follow onto the palate. Crisp, with hints of vanilla and cream soda, but with a good mineral element to balance the elderflower and citrus. Chase Provence Rose - A crisp, fresh and fruity rosé, boasting delicious notes of white peach and grapefruit, with subtle aromas of Provence, drawn together with a lovely fresh finish. Casa Silva Cool Coast Pinot Noir - Oh my, this is heaven in a glass! It shows what can be done when Pinot Noir is grown in the right place, with the right soil and climate and is handled minimally by a very good winemaker. Crushed raspberries and vanilla in a glass. If this was from New Zealand you'd be paying twice as much for the quality. Got Everything? Unless you have the physique of Edward Scissorhands don't forget the cutlery! Enjoy! Mandi
