Wormtub 10 Year old
The third batch of the wonderful Wormtub 10 Year Old, this time bottled at 56.2% ABV. It's the same superb single malt Scotch as before, sourced from a distillery in Speyside that uses wormtubs (that we can't name, but we think there will be a few among you who can work it out) and then reracked into first-fill sherry casks. It's bottled at natural cask strength without chill-filtration or any added caramel colouring.
The expression is named after wormtubs. A classic piece of distilling equipment, it's a condenser made up of long copper coiled tubes housed in cold water in a large vat. More modern and efficient shell and tube condensers have by and large replaced them, but the distinctive, heavy, robust flavours they create are prized by whisky fans and the distilleries that still use them are only too happy to demonstrate that.
