Torre Del Falasco Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso
TASTING NOTE
Notes of black cherry and plums on the nose with a sweetly spiced edge. The palate is rich and ripe with redcurrant and raisin notes with that spicy core, as on the nose. The tannins are smooth and supple yet firm. Those of you who know us will know how much we love our Ripasso at W&W, and this is a phenomenal example for the price tag!
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
The Torre del Falasco wines are the standard bearer of the Cantina di Valpantena co-operative. Based northeast of Verona in the foothills of the Dolomites, with 700 hectares of land under vine, this is one of Italy's best co-operatives.
The Corvina and Rondinella grapes come from the steeply terraced vineyards. At the winery the grapes are destemmed, crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation has finished, the wine is macerated for ten days then added to the spent lees/skins from the Amarone fermentation. This is the 'ripasso' method and gives a wine of incredible character. A 'baby-Amarone' as such.
