Bourbon - Where the Buffalo Roam
Buffalo Trace has a history that pre-dates most Scottish distilleries. The lush, fertile area on the Kentucky river was already known for it's moonshiners before in 1787 the Lee's Town distillery set up shop on the present day site and started shipping whiskey to New Orleans.
The site has hosted some of the legends of Bourbon including Harrison Blanton and George T. Stagg, with the distillery being named after the latter from 1904 until 1999, when it changed to the current name of Buffalo Trace.
During Prohibition the distillery was allowed to remain operational, in order to make whiskey for "medicinal purposes". There were clearly many afflicted souls in America at the time as the distillery shifted 1 million bottles on 1925 alone!
The distillery now produces many renowned and famous Bourbons including George T Stagg, Eagle Rare, and of course their flagship brand - Buffalo Trace.
