TASTING NOTE

This is best described as an iron fist in a velvet glove. Restrained and elegant yet powerful and bold. Red and black fruit abound with smooth tannins and a touch of smoky oak on the finish. This was love at first taste for us here at W&W.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Clonakilla Vineyard was founded in northern Canberra in 1971 by Dr John Kirk when his scientific curiosity led him to research why grapes were not grown in this region. His results showed that the soil and climate was perfect for certain grape varieties. In 1997, one of his sons, Tim, took over the winemaking responsibility and today Clonakilla is regarded as one of the leading estates in Australia.

Grapes are sourced from three vineyards in the Hilltops region of Canberra. At the winery they were destemmed, bunches separated and fermented warm. The wine was matured in French oak for 11 months (15% new) and racked before bottling.

Clonakilla means 'meadow of the church' and is the name of the founder's grandfather's farm in County Clare, Ireland.
