Nick Thomas
STORE MANAGER - NICK THOMAS

Nick has inhabited the world of wine for so long that Bacchus and Dionysus probably asked him for advice! Nick is older than most of the vines that produce the grapes, that make the amazing wines on our shelves. His roots too go deep! Nick spent 8 years in France with his better half Laura, where they owned and ran a couple of Bar/Restaurants and his love of the European epicurean culture is deep seated. He has also spent a lot of time in Italy and counts as friends so many winemakers and restauranteurs, that he’ll never have to pay for a glass of wine or a meal for the rest of his life!

Nick created and taught a Wine Education Course for Liverpool City council for 5 years, has acted as a consultant for Michelin starred restaurants and has hosted so many tastings he’s lost count! Come in and he will share his passion for both food and wine and will take your taste buds on the most interesting journey they’ve ever been on!

Events

We have a busy calendar of events here in West Kirby. Whether you're looking for a wine tasting, gin tasting, whisky tasting or Champagne, we host an array of different tastings all year, usually on a Thursday evening. We are regularly visited by wine importers and producers from all over the world who host tastings with us, and we always take the opportunity to show off our fantastic food alongside our wine! Well, why wouldn't we?

You can book places on our forthcoming tasting evenings here online, or call into the shop. You can also purchase Tasting Vouchers to give someone a great experience as a gift!

We also offer private tastings in store for groups, corporate clients and specialist event organisers. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

  • Graham's Cheese Moment - Caws Cenarth Caerphilly

Today is St. David's Day, a day of daffodils, leeks and dragons which means it must be time for us to stand well back and let Graham slip into another of his Cheese Moments. Graham often waxes lyrical about the time he cooked a midnight feast of cheese on toast for Gruffudd ap Llywelyn whilst working as the royal poisoner of wine goblets in the court of Edward the Confessor, The only cheese fit for a king? Why, Caerphilly of course!  Continue reading

  • The Grape & The Groove #1

Beyond my family, the two biggest passions in my life are music and wine. So I was rather excited when I was asked to do a series of blogs partnering the grape and the groove! Far more than food and wine matching, this is a very subjective topic, which will hopefully be made even more intriguing as both W&W’s range of wine, and my music taste are pretty eclectic.  Continue reading

  • Graham's Cheese Moment - Langres

Has it really been a whole month since the delight of Graham's January Cheese Moment? This month, Graham has mainly been dreaming about his previous life as a jester in the court of Louis XIV of France, who paid him personally in cheese. Whilst he may have shed the bells on his toes, Graham is still paid his salary in cheese. This month, he's rich with Langres. Continue reading

  • Garden Swift Gin

When it comes to gin, particularly those gins lucky enough to be coupled with the word ‘craft’, I think there’s a collective desire amongst many drinkers for a provenance that involves some rustic alchemist who resides just down the lane from Frodo in middle earth. Alas, the pretty bottle with ‘small batch’ and ‘artisan’ plastered all over its label, is all too often Continue reading
