Pale straw-lemon in colour, this medium style Riesling has lovely fragrant aromas with honeysuckle florals, lemon, lime citrus hints and traces of white peach and nectarine. On the palate it is refreshing and delicate with a subtle mineral background, crisp acidity, spicy stonefruit and fleshy apple characters, alongside classical Riesling citrus characters of lemon and lime. It has a hauntingly beautiful lingering finish, clean and crisp, with tingling acidity, citrus and a clover honey top note. It is distinguished by an impeccable balance between sweetness and acidity.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Riverby Estate is a boutique wine estate occupying a prime site in Marlborough, being situated next door to iconic winery Cloudy Bay. In 1989 vines were first planted and grapes are now grown on the estate vineyard by descendants of the Matthews family, who have been farming the property for over 100 years. The land was originally used for cropping and sheep farming. Now over 70 hectares are planted out in Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Semillon, Syrah and Gruner Veltliner.
The Matthews farm was called Riverby and the original property, shown on the Sauvignon Blanc back label, is still in use today.
The Riverby name originated from the Opawa River and its tributaries, which meandered through the property. In the 1930s, the river was diverted to avert flooding in the area. The rainbow trout on the Riverby label is a symbol of the fish that used to swim where grapes are now grown.
Previously Riverby exported wool to the world, now it is wine spreading the Riverby name far and wide. Markets have already grown to include the USA, UK, Canada, China, Japan and Singapore, as well as original major market, Australia.
We at Whitmore & White are massive fans of the Riverby Estate wines and you'll find a comprehensive selection on our shelves.
