Fermented in stainless steel and then aged in oak barriques for twelve months and a further two years in bottle thereafter, this is a stunning Rioja. It manages to maintain freshness of fruit whilst showing some of the strawberry-vanilla style that comes from the oak influence.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Based in Fuenmayor in the Rioja Alta region, the Foncea family run this Bodega and produce an impressive range of Riojas. From Blanco, through Rosado to Gran Reserva, the key phrase is 'quality and value'. The grapes harvested from the 55 ha of vineyards (mainly Tempranillo) are fermented in stainless steel and those requiring ageing are done so in a combination of French and American oak 225 litre casks.
