From New South Wales in Australia this grape is not often seen outside of Bordeaux where it is generally used as a 'filler' to finish off a Bordeaux Blend. However, small parcels are grown around the world (Chile and Australia particularly). This Petit Verdot from the master winemaking team at De Bortoli is startlingly good. A fresh, menthol driven nose, with spicy nutmeg in the background. The palate is smooth, with ripe tannins, balanced acidity and savoury fruit, oak and plum fruit notes. Wow!!
About the producer
Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli founded the company in 1928 after they migrated to Australia from Northern Italy. Their son, Deen De Bortoli took over later and was a true visionary of the Australian wine industry. He was at the forefront of innovation and made wine for the people. The Deen Vat Series range is a true reflection and tribute to Deen himself.
