Matured in Sherry and Bourbon Barrels. Deepest gold in colour with a wonderfully rich nose of Christmas cake, pine needles, cedar, smoky leather, coffee and dried fruit. The palate is a well-balanced mix of sweet, smoky and spicy with flavours of liquorice, honey, treacle and cigars. The finish is long and smoky with hints of mocha and raisins.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Ardbeg was established in 1815 by the MacDougall family, and by the late 1800s was the most productive distillery in Islay with an annual output of more than 1 million litres of whisky. The distillery was mothballed in 1981, and didn't regain full-time production until 1997 when it was bought by the Glenmorangie Company. From there, its fortunes took an upturn once more, being voted Distillery of the Year in 1998, the worldwide Ardbeg Committee launched in 2000 to ensure 'the doors of the distillery never close again', and a string of awards and sought-after bottlings.Scotland Islay Ardbeg 0.542
