This is best described as an iron fist in a velvet glove. Restrained and elegant yet powerful and bold. Red and black fruit abound with smooth tannins and a touch of smoky oak on the finish. This was love at first taste for us here at W&W.
Monte Real Rioja Reserva
After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is transferred to American oak barrels for a further 24-30 months for ageing. It is then bottled and held for a further two years prior to release. This is a very complex wine – a savoury, herby style with good red fruit character and smooth tannins.
Casa Silva Cool Coast Pinot Noir
Oh my, this is heaven in a glass! It shows what can be done when Pinot Noir is grown in the right place, with the right soil and climate and is handled minimally by a very good winemaker. Crushed raspberries and vanilla in a glass. If this was from New Zealand you’d be paying twice as much for the quality.
Riverby Pinot Noir
A lovely, lusciously ripe Malborough Pinot Noir. Pale ruby in colour with intense aromas of raspberry and cherry and notes of pepper and lavender. The palate has a long, earthy finish with well-balanced tannins.
Torre del Falasco Ripasso
Notes of black cherry and plums on the nose with a sweetly spiced edge. The palate is rich and ripe with redcurrant and raisin notes with that spicy core, as on the nose. The tannins are smooth and supple yet firm. Those of you who know us will know how much we love our Ripasso at W&W, and this is a phenomenal example for the price tag!
De Bortoli Deen Vat1 Durif
Deep inky purple in appearance with aromas of black plum, mulberry, a hint of white pepper and dried apricot. The palate expresses dark plum, mixed fruit spice, liquorice, chocolate and cedar oak with a framing tannin finish. An outstanding example of wine produced using the Durif grape.
