STORE MANAGERS - JACQUES TUNNICLIFFE & TOM SCARGILL
Tom has spent twelve years working in the wine industry. His first love was Bordeaux but subsequent trips around the world of wine have left him with a fascination at the endless delights possible from fermented grapes! Current favourites are the wines of Portugal, New Zealand and the lesser-known regions of southern France.
Tom’s favourite wine? Whatever suits the meal before him. Matching food and wine is one of his favourite pastimes, so joining the team at Whitmore & White was a natural fit. Tom has since developed his long suspected but hitherto unrealised obsession with cheese. Once again it’s the produce of France that he admires most.
The highlight of any working week for Tom is the opportunity to host a wine tasting. His relaxed but informative approach has proved popular in Frodsham with tastings selling out very quickly. He also makes a mean G&T, so drop by on a Friday or Saturday night and see what his tipple of the week is.
We have a busy calendar of events here in Frodsham. Whether you're looking for a wine tasting, gin tasting, whisky tasting or Champagne, we host an array of different tastings all year, usually on a Saturday evening. We are regularly visited by wine importers and producers from all over the world who host tastings with us, and we always take the opportunity to show off our fantastic food alongside our wine! Well, why wouldn't we?
You can book places on our forthcoming tasting evenings here online, or call into the shop. You can also purchase Tasting Vouchers to give someone a great experience as a gift!
We also offer private tastings in store for groups, corporate clients and specialist event organisers. Contact us to discuss your requirements.
Port and cheese is just so quintessentially British isn’t it? And it's never more so than at Christmas time when sales of both sky-rocket! Putting the festive tradition aside for a minute, with the style ranging from white Port, through aged Tawny styles and onto single vineyard and vintage Ports, there’s no reason why Port shouldn’t be consumed at any time of year! And with the wealth Continue reading
Christmas tunes: some people love them, some people not so much. Personally, if I never hear Mariah Carey’s cash cow again that would be just fine! But I ain’t no humbug; I love a bit of ‘Winter Wonderland’, East 17’s cringy ‘Stay Another Day’ makes me feel bewilderingly nostalgic, and I get misty-eyed at the final verse of ‘Fairytale Of New York’. Jacques has been managing our shop in Frodsham for a couple of years now, and fresh from his starring role in ITV2's Killer Camp this Halloween, we asked him about his plans for Christmas. Needless to say the waxing lyrical went on for some time, but who are we to argue with a man who got blown to bits in the back of a hay trailer on national television? Continue reading
Great jingling bells of fire! We've only gone and reopened our Chester shop for Christmas! If we gloss over the past eight months, it's almost as if we never left. The response to the news that we're making a come back on Godstall Lane has been quite astonishing! Continue reading
