TASTING NOTE

This has long been a staff favourite at W&W! Ripe and creamily oaky with tropical fruit undertones, this is a perfectly balanced Chardonnay and eminently drinkable. With grapes taken from the original family vineyard at Angostura, this is a full bodied, ripe and peachy Chardonnay. With such great poise and balance this wine will certainly stand up to more expensive Chardonnays from Australasia.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Based in the Colchagua Valley just south of Santiago, Vina Casa Silva as a winery was re-established in 1997. It was done so by Mario Silva, a fourth generation descendant from one of Chile’s oldest winemaking dynasties.

He bought back the land and vineyards which formerly belonged to his wife’s family and also he modernised the old family winery. The vines were some of the first planted in the Colchagua Valley by his wife’s French ancestors, dating back to 1912. So began a painstaking process of re-assembling the original vineyards plot by plot. Mario also sought out potential new vineyard sites in other parts of Colchagua, with specific terroirs to maximise the potential of the grape varietals he wanted to plant.

Mario was joined by his son, Mario Pablo Silva, and they agreed that the future of the family (and indeed, the whole of the Chilean wine industry) lay in producing estate grown and bottled, terroir-specific wines with individuality and character. Thus began the company’s first brand, Casa Silva.

From the original vineyard site and winery in Angostura, new sites have been found and planted in Los Lingues, Lolol and Colchagua’s first coastal estate at Paredones. With the inception of the “Microterroir Project” and also the “Carmenere Clone Project” now fully underway, the future is incredibly bright for Vina Casa Silva.

Vina Casa Silva has been inundated with wine awards since it first put its wines into competitions in 2000 and can quite confidently say that it is indeed the most awarded winery in Chile. At Whitmore and White we firmly believe in the wines of Vina Casa Silva and as such you will see a comprehensive range on our shelves.
